Position: Accountant / Financial Operations Lead
Location: [London/ Hybrid / Remote] – Partially office-based: one to two days per week at our Islington Head Office.

ABOUT ROLE
We are currently seeking an experienced Accountant / Financial Operations Lead to join our finance team. This role is critical to the long-term financial health and operational success of our organisation.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of financial planning, risk analysis, compliance, and internal control systems.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Oversight

Lead the financial planning process by analysing organisational performance and identifying financial risks and opportunities.

Maintain continuous oversight of the organisation’s financial position to anticipate and mitigate potential issues.

Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial IT systems, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and long-term stability.

Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including quarterly and annual performance statements.

Provide strategic insight and recommendations on financial matters, including investments, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Comprehensive Financial Operations Management

Manage all financial and accounting functions across diverse software platforms including Sage, Thomson Reuters, MS Office, QuickBooks, HMRC, and others.

Prepare and consolidate regular financial reports for the Head Office and local Parishes.

Produce comprehensive Financial Statements and Management Accounts, incorporating:

Accruals and prepayments
-
Fixed asset registers for both leasehold and freehold properties, ensuring accurate capitalisation

Fund-specific accounting
-
Reconciliations and audit trails
-
Adjustments in compliance with accounting standards

Ensure financial documentation is adapted and submitted according to the requirements of relevant regulatory bodies (e.g., Charity Commission, Companies House, FCA).
Audit, Compliance, and Reporting

Oversee all internal and external audit processes, liaising directly with local parishes and auditors to ensure compliance with audit standards.

Coordinate the preparation and filing of statutory financial reports, including annual returns and regulatory submissions, in line with internal audit assessments and compliance requirements.

Ensure full compliance with applicable government regulations and financial laws through continuous policy alignment and monitoring.
Banking, and Investments

Monitor and coordinate banking operations involving all accounts, in collaboration with Barclays, Lloyds and other financial institutions.

Maintain financial controls and reporting related to investment accounts, including reconciliation of interest rates and end balances.

Oversee the administration and reconciliation of internal transactions, ensuring the precise preparation of requisite files, aligned with financial records and organisational protocols.
Budgeting, Analysis, and Forecasting

Conduct quarterly financial analysis, balance reconciliation, and consolidated reporting from local Parishes.

Develop and adapt organisation-wide and project-specific budgets.

Analyse fund ratios, liquidity, and solvency to ensure financial stability and sustainability.
Technical and Administrative Functions

Design, modify, and maintain customised tools (e.g., Cashbook system) in line with economic and reporting standards.

Monitor the effectiveness and compliance of key financial platforms (e.g., Sage, Quickbooks, Thomson Reuters).

Ensure continuous and effective engagement with regulators, investors, banking representatives, and local Parishes.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates:

Proven experience as an Accountant, Financial Manager, or similar role.

Good knowledge of financial regulations, compliance standards, and audit practices, ideally within the nonprofit or charity sector.

Proficiency with financial software and platforms including Sage, Quickbooks, Thomson Reuters, and MS Office.

Exceptional analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Fluency in Polish is necessary, with a strong proficiency in English.

A strong academic and professional expertise in accounting, finance, or economics is essential.
